Cleaning Services
Choose a cleaning service that works for you
A cleaning service comes into your home and is entrusted with your personal environment and possessions. It pays to take a few minutes to define your priorities and expectations before selecting a service.
- Define your cleaning priorities and communicate those to the prospective vendor. Be as specific as possible to let them know what cleaning chores you want done. Don´t be afraid to tell them that you want the stove cleaned with a toothbrush, if that´s important to you. Be aware that you´ll pay for the service, but it´s better to be clear and then adjust your expectations than to be disappointed and not know why.
- Ask how they do their work. Find out about employee turnover. Also ask how well employees are trained.
- Find out what type of insurance is available in case property is damaged or one of their employees is injured on the job.
- Do they use their own supplies or do you have to supply them? Companies that provide the use of supplies usually add it into the cost, but check to make sure.
- If being environmentally conscious is a priority, ask about cleaning materials such as solvents and cleansers. Are they biodegradable? If you have allergies, tell them.
- Get at least three different estimates. Ask the vendor to come to your house for an interview. You´ll get a more accurate bid and be able to communicate more clearly what you want.
- Check out all references and call the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any unresolved complaints against the company.
If you qualify your cleaning company, you should have a long, productive relationship and a tidy house into the bargain.
